California Accessible Parking Checklist for Commercial Lots

Before a restriping project, record the accessible parking features your commercial property already has and the issues that need a closer look. This checklist covers space counts, van layouts, aisle markings, signs, surface condition, and the connection to an accessible entrance.

The checklist refers to the 2025 California Building Code, Chapter 11B, and the federal 2010 ADA Standards. It is a starting point for recording observations, not a complete accessibility inspection or certification. Local requirements, medical uses, existing conditions, and other site details can change what needs review.

What should I check before restriping?

Count spaces in each facility separately. Note the accessible and van spaces, measure the stalls and aisles, and look for worn paint, missing signs, blocked routes, uneven surfaces, and vehicle overhang. Take photos and keep a list of questions for the appropriate contractor or accessibility professional.
