Asphalt Resurfacing & Repair Project

    Project Overview

EARTHTEK Paving and Grinding Inc completed this asphalt resurfacing and repair project, restoring an aging pavement surface and improving safety, performance, and overall appearance. Our crew performed targeted asphalt repair and crack sealing, installed a new asphalt overlay across the surface, and finished with protective sealcoating — extending the pavement's lifespan by years at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.

Not every aging surface needs to be torn out. When the underlying base is still sound, resurfacing is the smart investment: repair the damage, overlay with fresh hot mix asphalt, and seal it against future wear. This project is a textbook example of restoring pavement performance without the cost and downtime of full reconstruction.

    Scope of Work

    • Asphalt repair and crack sealing
    • Asphalt resurfacing (overlay)
    • Protective sealcoating

    Why This Project Was Needed

Aging asphalt sends clear signals before it fails completely — and catching them early is the difference between an affordable resurfacing project and a full replacement:

    • Widespread surface cracking — open cracks let water into the base; left untreated, they grow into alligator cracking and base failure
    • Potholes and localized failures — damage vehicles, create trip hazards, and expand rapidly once water gets underneath
    • Raveling and surface wear — loose aggregate and a rough texture signal the surface layer has reached the end of its life
    • Oxidized, gray, brittle asphalt — UV exposure dries out unsealed pavement, accelerating cracking
    • Rough ride and poor appearance — deteriorated pavement hurts curb appeal and reflects poorly on the property
    • Rising maintenance costs — when patching becomes constant, resurfacing resets the clock at far lower cost than reconstruction

Our Asphalt Repair & Crack Sealing Process

    • Pavement assessment — Inspect the full surface to map cracks, potholes, and failed sections, and confirm the base is sound enough for resurfacing rather than replacement.
    • Failed-section removal — Saw-cut and remove isolated areas of base failure; rebuild them with compacted aggregate and fresh asphalt so problems don't telegraph through the new surface.
    • Crack cleaning & sealing — Rout and clean cracks, then fill them with hot rubberized crack sealant to stop water intrusion before the overlay goes down.
    • Pothole & patch repairs — Cut, clean, fill, and compact damaged areas to create a uniform, stable surface for resurfacing.

    Our Asphalt Resurfacing Process

    • Surface preparation — Clean the pavement and mill down high spots, edges, and transitions so the new overlay ties in smoothly at curbs, drains, and existing surfaces — precision grinding is a core EARTHTEK specialty.
    • Tack coat application — Spray a bonding agent across the old surface so the new asphalt layer adheres as one monolithic pavement.
    • Asphalt overlay installation — Pave a fresh layer of hot mix asphalt (typically 1.5"–2") across the entire surface with a paver at consistent depth and grade.
    • Compaction — Compact the overlay with vibratory and finish rollers while hot to achieve target density and a smooth, tight surface.
    • Transitions & cleanup — Blend joints at driveways, gutters, and structures; clean the site and allow cure time before reopening.

    Our Sealcoating Process

    • Cure time — Allow the new overlay to cure (typically 6–12 months for fresh asphalt) before applying sealer; on this project, sealcoating protects repaired and resurfaced areas per the maintenance schedule.
    • Surface cleaning — Remove dirt, debris, and vegetation; prime any oil spots so the sealer bonds properly.
    • Sealcoat application — Apply commercial-grade sealer by spray or squeegee in two uniform coats.
    • Curing & reopening — Allow 24–48 hours of cure time, then remove barricades and reopen to traffic.

Note: recurring sealcoating every 2–3 years is the single most cost-effective way to extend the life of resurfaced pavement.

    Equipment Used on This Project

    • Milling/grinding machine — a core EARTHTEK specialty
    • Asphalt paver
    • Vibratory drum rollers and pneumatic finish rollers
    • Hot rubberized crack sealing kettle
    • Tack coat distributor
    • Dump trucks and material transfer vehicles
    • Plate compactors for patches and edges
    • Sealcoating spray rig and squeegee equipment

    The Result

A restored, smooth, uniform asphalt surface with years of new life — repaired at the source, resurfaced for performance and appearance, and sealed against water, UV, and daily wear. The property got like-new pavement without the cost or downtime of full replacement.
