Children’s Health

    Project Overview

EARTHTEK Paving and Grinding Inc completed this asphalt paving and commercial concrete project at a Children's Health medical facility. Our crew installed new asphalt across the parking and drive areas and placed commercial concrete at the high-traffic entrance zones — delivering a smooth, safe, fully accessible surface for the patients, families, and staff who use the property every day.

Medical facilities set a higher bar than typical commercial properties. Families arrive with strollers, wheelchairs, and young children; drop-off zones see constant stop-and-go traffic; and every walking surface, curb ramp, and accessible route has to meet ADA requirements without exception. The pavement plan here combined the right material in the right place — flexible asphalt for the parking fields, durable concrete where foot traffic, drop-offs, and accessibility matter most — with phasing that kept the facility open and accessible throughout.

    Scope of Work

    • Asphalt paving of parking and drive areas
    • Commercial concrete at entrances, walkways, and high-traffic zones
    • ADA-compliant transitions, ramps, and accessible routes
    • Phased construction to maintain facility access

    Why This Project Was Needed

Pavement condition at a medical facility is a patient-safety issue, not just a maintenance line item:

    • Trip hazards — cracks, potholes, and uneven surfaces are unacceptable where children, elderly visitors, and patients with mobility challenges walk daily
    • ADA compliance — accessible parking, curb ramps, and routes from stall to entrance must meet current standards; deteriorated surfaces put compliance at risk
    • Wheelchair and stroller accessibility — rough, cracked pavement makes every trip from car to door harder for the families the facility serves
    • Drop-off zone wear — constant stop-and-go traffic at patient loading areas wears surfaces faster than open parking
    • Drainage and slip hazards — standing water at entrances and walkways creates slip-and-fall liability
    • First impressions and trust — a well-maintained property signals the same care families expect inside the building

    Our Asphalt Paving Process

    • Site evaluation & phasing plan — Assess pavement condition and traffic patterns; sequence the work in sections so parking, drop-off, and emergency access remain available at all times.
    • Demolition & removal — Mill or excavate failed asphalt and haul it away for recycling.
    • Grading & drainage — Shape the sub-surface to move water away from entrances, walkways, and the building.
    • Base preparation & proof rolling — Compact aggregate base and verify uniform support before paving.
    • Asphalt installation & compaction — Pave hot mix asphalt at consistent depth and roll while hot for a dense, smooth surface.
    • Transitions — Tie in flush at concrete zones, curb ramps, and existing surfaces — no lips, no trip edges.

    Our Commercial Concrete Process

    • Layout for accessibility — Form entrance aprons, walkways, curb ramps, and accessible routes to current ADA slope and cross-slope requirements.
    • Reinforcement & placement — Install reinforcement and pour commercial-grade concrete in the zones that take the heaviest foot traffic and drop-off wear.
    • Finishing — Broom-finish for slip resistance, with clean tooled edges and detectable warning surfaces where required.
    • Control jointing & curing — Joint at proper spacing and protect the pour through cure before reopening each phase.

    Equipment Used on This Project

    • Asphalt paver
    • Milling/grinding machine — a core EARTHTEK specialty
    • Skid steers and grading equipment
    • Vibratory drum rollers and plate compactors
    • Concrete forms, screeds, and finishing tools
    • Dump trucks and material transfer
    • Barricades and phasing/traffic control equipment

    The Result

A smooth, safe, fully accessible property: new asphalt parking and drive areas, durable concrete where families walk and load, ADA-compliant routes from every accessible stall to the door, and drainage that keeps entrances dry — all delivered in phases that never closed the facility to the patients who depend on it.
