EARTHTEK Paving and Grinding Inc completed this residential driveway paving project, delivering a clean, durable asphalt surface that improves both curb appeal and everyday functionality. Our crew handled full sitework and grading before installing a professional-grade asphalt driveway built to withstand daily vehicle use and year-round weather conditions.
A driveway is one of the first things anyone notices about a home — and one of the hardest-working surfaces on the property. The difference between a driveway that cracks and sinks within a few years and one that performs for decades comes down to proper grading, a compacted base, and quality hot mix asphalt installed by an experienced crew. This project delivered all three.
Scope of Work
Site grading and preparation
Asphalt driveway installation
Finish compaction and edge detailing
Why This Project Was Needed
Homeowners typically call us about a driveway when they're seeing one or more of these issues — or building new and wanting it done right the first time:
Cracking and potholes — let water into the base, where freeze-thaw cycles and moisture cause damage to spread quickly
Sinking or uneven areas — signal a poorly compacted base or drainage problems beneath the surface
Standing water — pooling accelerates deterioration and can direct water toward the garage or foundation
Crumbling edges — driveways without proper edge support break apart along the borders
Faded, rough, or stained surfaces — drag down curb appeal and home value
Gravel or dirt driveways — dust, ruts, mud, and constant regrading make paving a worthwhile upgrade
Our Grading & Site Preparation Process
Site evaluation — Assess soil conditions, slope, drainage patterns, and how water moves across the property; plan the driveway to shed water away from the home and garage.
Excavation & removal — Remove old pavement, gravel, or topsoil down to stable ground and haul it away.
Grading & sloping — Shape the sub-surface for proper drainage — a correctly sloped driveway protects both the pavement and the home's foundation.
Base installation — Install and compact aggregate base rock to create a firm, stable foundation that prevents future sinking and cracking.
Compaction check — Verify the base is uniformly compacted before any asphalt goes down; this step is where driveway longevity is won or lost.
Our Driveway Paving Process
Hot mix asphalt delivery — Time material delivery so asphalt arrives at the proper temperature for placement and compaction.
Asphalt installation — Pave the driveway at a consistent depth (typically 2"–3" compacted for residential use) with smooth, even coverage.
Compaction — Roll the surface with vibratory and finish rollers while hot to achieve a dense, tight, long-lasting finish.
Edge detailing — Hand-tamp and angle the edges at 45 degrees for clean lines and added edge strength.
Transitions — Blend smoothly at the garage apron, sidewalk, and street connection.
Cure time — Keep vehicles off for 3–5 days (longer in hot weather) while the new asphalt cures.
Equipment Used on This Project
Asphalt paver
Skid steer and mini excavator
Motor grader / grading attachments
Vibratory drum roller
Plate compactors and hand tampers for edges
Dump trucks for material delivery and haul-off
Lutes and hand tools for finish work
The Result
A smooth, clean, professionally installed asphalt driveway that boosts the home's curb appeal, sheds water properly, and stands up to daily use and weather for years to come — built on a graded, compacted foundation designed to prevent the cracking and sinking that plague poorly built driveways.
