Yes, Redwood City has a sidewalk program. However, unlike San Jose’s sidewalk program, Redwood City will split the cost with the homeowner.
Do I need a permit to install concrete?
It depends on the scope of the project. If the project includes new construction, typically yes, you need a permit. Additionally, the project needs to meet Redwood City’s Local Development Standards.
The age-old debate about asphalt or concrete will never seem to die. There are benefits to an asphalt driveway vs a concrete driveway. This also holds true for paving a parking lot or installing concrete for the parking lot. Generally speaking, asphalt is about half the cost to install over concrete. However, concrete has a longer life span and does not need as much maintenance as asphalt, such as sealcoating. Redwood City does have areas of expansive soils (Adobe Soil), which make asphalt more favorable in some cases.
